The riser is a part of a wooden staircase, or rather a vertical step element. Of course, there are also staircases without risers «through stairs». It is not necessary to use risers for cladding concrete stairs with wooden decor.
Standard riser size:
height from 15cm to 18cm;
length from 60cm to 65cm;
thickness from 18 to 20 mm.
All parts of a wooden staircase are required to be the same in their physical parameters: density, humidity, etc. In the opposite case, a structure prone to deformations may turn out, which will subsequently affect the state of the stairs and begin to creak.
The wear of the riser is minimized, since it does not have constant contact compared to the step, so there is no need for constant replacement, unless of course the riser was damaged by insects.
