The Fosen Vind project was recently announced — six wind farms with a total capacity of 1,000 MW. They are planned to be built in Norway. Upon completion, Fosen Vind will become the largest wind farm in Europe.
The combined capacity of the Fosen Vind project will also make it the fourth largest in the world. Gansu Wind Farm in China (currently under construction) is still listed as the largest (expected capacity of 6,000 MW).
Fosen Vind is a joint project between Statkraft, TrønderEnergi and Nordic Wind Power. Project cost — 1.1 billion euros.
Wind farms will be located on the Fosen Peninsula, Hitra Island and in the Snilfjord, which is between them. Experts say these are some of the best locations in Europe for wind power generation. The project is expected to generate 3.4 billion kWh of electricity per year.
The construction of wind farms is due to start in the second quarter of this year and is scheduled for completion in 2020..
